Beautiful Things: Japanese Washi and Colored Tape

I love any utilitarian office supply with a twist, and colored and patterned tape is no exception. Of particular love is Japanese Washi tape. It’s super easy to use, tears perfectly, and doesn’t leave a sticky mess when you peel it off. There are so many cool things you do with Washi tape, including letting your kids decorate envelopes, gifts wrapped in kraft paper, and even plain wooden boxes from the craft store. This post has some great inspiration for different uses. If you create any projects using colored or Washi tape, please post a photo to our Facebook page. We’d love to see them!

Which Holiday Designs Did Jenny Pick?

As a designer, I create designs that I’d like to use myself, whether it be birth announcements, invitations, or holiday cards. This strategy has seemed to work for me throughout my career, so I’m sticking with it! The hard part comes when it’s time for me to actually pick a design to use for an event or holiday. So this Christmas, I thought I’d share  the cards I chose and why:

1. Captivating Crystals Tri-fold

The first card I picked is my fav — in fact, when I was designing it, I actually said to my husband “I just designed our holiday card for this year.” It’s called Captivating Crystals, and it’s a trifold design that folds down to a 5.25 x 5.25 inch card. The simple yet sparkling design lets your photos shine. I sent this one to the majority of my list, as it’s a perfect reflection of my personality and design style.

2. Round Wreath Ornament Card

This year, Tiny Prints introduced ornament cards, and I loved designing them. I ordered 15, and sent them to my family and close friends. They come with a satin ribbon so the recipient can hang it on their tree, or anywhere else they please. This particular design features hand-painted watercolor designs that you won’t see anywhere else.

3. Festive Diagonals Folded Card

What’s great about Tiny Prints, our partner company, is you can order as little as 10 cards. This enabled me to get really personal with my holiday cards, such as this design called Festive Diagonals. I ordered these cards for my boys’ school teachers and was able to put messaging specific to the school and how much I appreciate their work.

4. Initialed Wreath Tri-fold Card

And finally, another tri-fold design called Initialed Wreath, which really captures the spirit of the holidays. I created the front panel (when folded) to resemble a Christmas family crest, with your monogram and family name as the center of attention. The rest of the card allows for you to put personal information about your kids, pets, yourselves, whatever you choose. I wrote little tid-bits about my children, and sent these as an update to friends and family that we don’t see that often.

A big thanks to everyone who ordered my designs. I really appreciate your support of Hello Little One and my design career. I’m honored to create canvases for your precious family photos and life events. Happy Holidays! xoxo

Print Your Own Custom Fabric at Spoonflower.com

I’m always looking for unique art and decor to incorporate into my home, so when my friend Renee sent me a link to a site where you can print your own custom fabric, I had to check it out. Spoonflower.com not only allows you to upload your own graphics for printing, but also offers the largest collection of independent fabric designers in the world. You don’t have to be an artist or designer: you can upload photos, your child’s drawings, basically anything you can think of that would be fun to make into fabric. Very, very cool.

Hero Design Studio at 1000 Markets

A lot of people have heard of Etsy, but have you ever been to 1000markets.com? I love this site: easy to navigate, unique products and great service. One of the things they do best is feature design studios that sell their prints and posters. The price is usally right, and with a frame and mat bought at your local crafts or home store, voila! You have original and inexpensive art that you'll love. One such shop is Hero Design Studio. Check out some of their prints… $4 – $25! You can't beat it.

New Vintage Birth Announcements Inspired by a Trip to Paris

I recently just went on a trip to Paris for some amazing wine, decadent cheese, and a good dose of artful inspiration. Besides sitting at cafes and people watching, my second favorite thing to do is wonder around and take snapshots of all the cool typography in the city. From boulangeries to carrousels, the fonts and type treatments are always unique and fanciful. It was great inspiration for some new vintage designs that I just posted. Here are a few of my favs:
